De Omnibus Dubitandum, (Everything is to be questioned!)

By Rich Kozlovich

Well, this is the last weekend before it's decided whether the United States of America will continue to exist or not, and I no longer think that's hyperbole as I once did.

Make no mistake, it's not just about who they are, it's about what they are, what they believe, and what they do, and the central question that should be on everyone's mind is who is the best leader?  Or for that matter if they have any leadership skills at all.  History is everything, and fortunately each of their histories tells us that story, much of which is covered in today's edition.

It's my view voter fraud will be massive in many states, and the fact the Democrats think Trump would win is more impetus for them to go insane on voter fraud.  That didn't happen with Hillary because they actually believed their own hype, and the hype from their myrmidons in the media that she was a shoo in for President.   Not in 2020, and not now.

This will go to the courts, and as Vice President it will be up to Kamala to certify the election, which the Democrats demanded Pence certify.  But Democrats being Democrats, they will demand Kamala refuse to certify.  As for the down card, here's my Updated Analysis of the 2024 Senate Race.

Voter fraud for the House is more complicated as the fake ballots have in the past have mostly shown votes for the President and the down card was mostly empty.  That's not normal.   The reason why is it's extremely hard to pre-print that many fake ballots with all those different down card candidates.  That's why they need days to "find" lost ballots in order to print down card candidates names in them.

I have no doubt the Democrats will work tirelessly to undermine his administration if he wins.  That's who they are, what they do, and that will never change, and there are entirely too many Republicans who will help them to do it.  I break that down in my Mitch McConnell's Replacement article.

Trump's rally at the Madison Square Garden was a massive triumph.   Sally Zelikovsky defined it in this manner:

....Trump’s rallies..... remind me of a convention comes down to the fact that the atmosphere at both events is the same: Jubilant. Fun. Energizing. Optimistic. Lots of hats, signs, cheers, and jeers. Tens of thousands of attendees. Guest speakers.  A grand old time for the grand old party.

This rally is being proclaimed as a triumph everywhere, Monica Showalter called his speech a tour de force saying:

"no wonder Democrats tried to distract from it".... "yelling about Nazis and Nazi rallies in the most preposterous comparison ever"....[claiming]....It was so bad, so pathetic, all I could do was hope they kept doing it, because they were shooting blanks"....

But the Nitwit Brigade has a different view of the world.   New York Gov. Kathy Hochul says the rally is Trump "waving the white flag of surrender.”  And Rob Reiner claims that rally "puts the final nail in his racist coffin".   I've come to the conclusion they called him the Meat Head in All in the Family because they really did see him as a meat head.

And if it was "so bad" why is it Hasidic Jews found it impressive enough to endorse Trump?  So much for claims it was a Nazi rally.

Then there's Whoopi!  As Professor Higgins in My Fair Lady said of Eliza Doolittle:  "She's so deliciously low".  Well, say that and add stupid, and you define Whoopi.  Democrats, one and all, called it a racist Nazi rally.  Wow, and they've been doing that since 1948.  Ya gotten give them credit for consistency, not smarts, but hey, ya just can't have everything, right?   But wouldn't you think they'd prefer smarts?  Nah, they  would be allowed to be be Democrats then.

Ole Joe called over half of the American voting public "garbage" because they support Trump, Kamala scolded blacks and men for not supporting Kamala, and Democrats, one and all,  are calling them racists and fascists.   Wow, now there's a winning strategy for you, insulting those you want to vote for you.   You'd think after the beating Hillary took calling them deplorables that would have taught them a lesson.  It didn't, because this is who they are and their contemptuous view America, and Whoopi Goldberg, that paragon of low IQ and irrational thought processes, says .... watch out now .... here it comes ....Whoopi says Hillary was right.

The Democrats are so hot to save "our democracy" they insist the only way to do that is to destroy the First Amendment.   After all, you can't have people going around and saying what they really think, unless it agrees with government policy, leftist government policy of course, followed by a really loud Sieg Heil!

This week Molly Slag published this piece on property taxes in N. Dakota asking if their system of property taxation was fair, and she concluded it was, and truthfully, I didn't know if her analysis was correct or not, but it was complicated, and that's the problem.  All these systems of taxation are so complicated we need to hire accounts.

My comment was:

All forms of taxation are immoral because they're can use all the force they want to enforce that confiscation. Unfortunately they're a necessary evil. So the goal is to make them as fair and unburdensome as possible, and that's the rub.

Just because the article deals specifically with Montana's taxing system is immaterial to the overall issue of the problem of what happens ultimately, greed, corruption, power mongering, and special privileges for the special few always follows, and both parties are guilty of this corruption, the left is just far worse.

The reason teacher's salaries and pensions are out of control is because the unions so often support politicians who are also the people who negotiate the contracts knowing they can just raise taxes.

They keep spending, and taxing, and spending and taxing, and can find an unending number "laudable goals" to spend that money on in order to further justify more confiscation, more spending, more government, and more taxation.  As Dan Mitchell asks, can anyone identify any nation "in recorded history that has successfully used higher taxes and more spending as a route to prosperity."  The answer? “There’s no nation anywhere in the world that has become rich with big government.”

Now ask the people of Chicago how that's working out for them.   Chicago Teachers Union president with $50B in new demands tells Chicagoan's to stop asking about the ‘cost’.  It gets worse.

Normally I don't watch videos as they're too time consuming, and by the time I get to the end and more often than not I saw nothing I could use or was really interested in.  Time wasted.  Since I read so much from so many sites, including reports sent to me I scan a lot, and I do so because often times in a general way, I already pretty know what they're going to say.  Then after doing a quick scan I decide if I should spend time digesting the commentary.  But occasionally a video comes along that has a "Wow" factor.  Substack blogger Susan Daniels sent this to me, with a great story about Trump and the Green Berets, which begins at 28:30 in the interview, and it's worth seeing.

A couple of interesting things occurred with Russia this week.   First the G7 have authorized giving Ukraine another 50 billion dollars, most likely none of which will be tracked and based on history, much of it will most likely be stolen, and allegedly Putin is willing to talk to Zelenskyy about a limiting attacks on vital structures.  Really?

I think that's a big tell on Putin, and he's having some serious domestic financial issues on delinquent loans, which he's not going to be able to fix it until he gets this Ukraine war stopped.  Also, and I find this interesting, he's only willing to negotiate provided it's done via Qatar. Qatar?  Really?   And he's only willing to do that if Ukraine gives up the territory they took back after he stole it from them. And get this, at the same time he wants to be the one to negotiate a cease fire in Lebanon.  Imagine that!  What a guy!

  • China which has railed against any efforts to curtail their access to American markets think it's just fine to sanction an American company for having the audacity to make drones for Ukraine.
  • The liberal party in Canada, Trudeau's party, wants to kick that nutroll out of office.  Imagine that!
  • For those who've been reading P&D for any length of time you know I've been saying military use lasers were in the near horizon, and a lot of people got a real chuckle out of that.  Well, Israel has employed them and now are expanding their role.
  • It appears New York's mayor, Eric Adams, doesn't want to be a sanctuary city any longer, and I'm shocked, shocked I tell you.
  • Democrats are ignoring SCOTUS decisions in California and intend to force Catholic hospitals to perform "emergency abortions", and they will decide what's constitutes an emergency.
  • The Dutch have decided all that misinformation about these false covid vaccines was actually accurate, and now those who were fired for refusing the vaccinations are getting a million bucks and Bill Gates is on hock for some that, if not all.  Why the Dutch have any say in this case involving American citizens....in America.....is a bit mind boggling, but here's the real thought everyone should take away with this:   The bugman was right again.   Remarkable.
  • Here all this time we were told all that looting, crime, and violence that erupted in America's major cities was outrage over racist police.  No so!  It turns out winning the World Series is more than enough justification to riot and loot.   Perhaps we should just conclude rioters, thieves, muggers, rapists, murders, and the lot don't really have any justification other than their own greed and corruption, and act accordingly.  Oh, but the party that's in total charge in California and California's major cities just can't tolerate that.   It would be racist.
  • In Texas, over 200 unqualified Texas educators had someone else take their exam in cheating scandal.  How much do you wanna bet this isn't the only state this is going on?  How much do you wanna bet that Vincent Grayson, basketball coach who organized this, along with all the other participants in this scheme, Tywana Gilford Mason, Nicholas Newton, Darian Nikole Wilhite, and LaShonda Roberts, are all Democrats?

Finally, and I really am getting a kick out of watching this unfold. In his article Jay Valentine asks, is this, "The End Of Massive Data Centers?"  He says these data centers are in need of massive amounts of electricity t to run, and explains why.  We also know alternative energy is totally incapable of meeting that need.

So, watch Google and the rest decide nuclear isn't that bad after all, much to the chagrin of the greenies, warmists, and globalists, and push for Small Nuclear Reactors (SMR) and even smaller microreactors and small modular reactors, (SMR's), which are portable.  It gets better.  He says we don't need data centers.  You will find this interesting, so take a look.

There's change coming, and ya just can't make all this stuff up.  Today's offerings include eight pieces by me, some extensive, and twenty excellent pieces by others, and I've added a fifth permanent link regarding Islam.  That's a never ending story, and I want to make sure it's being told correctly.

The weather is getting colder, most of what I've left to do on the outside involves fall planting and clean up, and now I hope to be able to get to the 20 books I ordered and haven't read.  So, enjoy and have a great weekend knowing we're on the cusp of one of the most important historical events in America's history in deciding if the United States will continue to exist!  That's not hyperbole any longer!

No matter what anyone says, you can’t marginalize the truth!  You can suppress it, you can ignore it, you can avoid it, you can attempt to undermine it, you can attempt to subvert it, you can attempt to organize against it, you can even laugh at it, but if we have the courage and the fortitude to stand and confront the lies, irrespective of the personal costs, the truth will stand the test of time, because truth and time are on the same side.

Humor is the Best Medicine

By Rich Kozlovich

As most readers know my friend publishes a weekly newsletter, Patriot Neighbor, and each week she has a list of jokes or humorous sayings to lighten things up.  This week there was some I really liked, and as in the past I decided to organize and paraphrasing them below with what I think a few cartoons enhances.    Enjoy!

The Democrats are now claiming election interference because cemeteries lock their gates at night.  Barack Obama, who was born in Kenya and raised by a white mother in Hawaii, now urges Chicago’s black men to vote for an Indian woman who was raised in Canada. It's been speculated that while Oprah was interviewing Kamala Harris, who can use 100 words to answer yes or no and you still don’t know her answer, was actually thinking, OMG, Joe was the smart one!   However, Kamala has a fall back logic she believes is "fool" proof.  Simply call conservatives, whites, Christians, and Republicans racists, Nazis, sexists, homophobes, fascists, and white supremacists.  What could possibly go wrong with insulting over 50 percent of the voting population?

Well, how's this.  There are five forms of headaches: Migraine, tension, sinus, stress, and listening to Kamala Harris, and the "deplorable garbage" can't wait to be unburdened by what has been the last 3.5 years.

For the last time, Kamala Harris never worked at McDonalds, however it turns out Donald Trump is being indicted by Letitia James for serving a McDonald’s customer 7th nugget in six-piece order.

Nah, that last part was part of the humor.  Sometimes I tell people, “I hope your day is as pleasant as you are” and then watch their face as they try to figure out if that was a compliment or insult.

Islamic Persecution of Christians is Worldwide, Part V

Uprising against the Ottoman Empire. Memorial wall dedicated to George Kastrioti Skanderbeg (1405–1468 Stock Photo - Alamy

I decided some time ago to reduce what goes into P&D so I only posted full articles, but I do post what I call Gazettes, so this applies.

Over the weekend I stumbled on this October 26th article by Raymond Ibrahim, The Forgotten Christian ‘Braveheart’ Who Delivered the West from Islamic Terror saying:

Today in history, a man who would come to be known as the “Albanian Braveheart” delivered his homeland — and by extension, all of Europe — from a brutal Muslim siege following a series of mindboggling events......Nearly four decades earlier, this same Albanian, George Kastrioti — better known as Skanderbeg (“Lord Alexander”) — was taken captive as a small child by the Ottoman Turks, and trained to be a janissary: a Christian slave turned Muslim soldier. Excelling at war, he quickly rose among the Ottoman ranks until he became a renowned general with thousands of Turks under his command.

But despite all the honors showered on him, once the opportunity came in 1450, he showed where his true allegiance lay: he broke free of the Ottomans and fled back to his native and continuously harried Albania. There, after openly reclaiming his Christian faith, he “abjured the prophet and the sultan, and proclaimed himself the avenger of his family and country...........

In the centuries following his death, more than 1,000 books in more than 20 different languages, and any number of operas and plays, have been written about him. In a letter dated 1756, Major General James Wolfe of Britain wrote that Skanderbeg “excels all the officers, ancient and modern.” In 1905, historian William J. Armstrong went so far as to write that “the exploits even of the renowned paladins of the crusades, whether Godfrey or Tancred or Richard or Raymond, pale to insignificance by … comparison.”..............

Make sure to read the entire article.  One thing you will see is how other "Christian" rulers actually aided the Ottomans against their fellow Christians, and that wasn't an uncommon occurrence through the centuries in European politics.  At any rate that article took me to this site,  “Muslim Persecution of Christians,” where "Ibrahim has been producing a  monthly report since July, 2011 (which I will be following now) dedicated to chronicling the abuses and slaughters Christians experience throughout the Islamic world.  In certain respects, these monthly reports — there are over 120 of them — are the “live,” ongoing continuation of his 2013 book, Crucified Again."

We really need to get this. Islam isn't a religion, it's a political criminal movement masquerading as a religion.  When someone tell you they hate you and are going to kill you, you should believe them, especially when they've been doing that for almost 1500 years.

The October 7th atrocities by Hamas in Israel is not an exception for Muslims, it's the rule, and it's not about Israel, its about Islam and Israel is merely the canary in the coal mine, because what this is really about is Islam's unending war against western civilization.

Here's what Ibrahim has posted since July 2023, but there's much more.

The Reality of Islam, Part VI

By Rich Kozlovich, Tags: Christian Persecution, Part I, Part II, Part III, Part IV, Part V, , Persecution of Christians Is Now Pandemic, My Gazette: Christian Heresy, and

As the years go by it boggles my mind at these nitwit leftists and their media catspaws screaming about Islamophobia.  Let's try and get this once and for all.  There's no such thing as Islamophobia, nor is it possible to be Islamophobic.  Why? Because a phobia is a mental disorder and an unnatural fear, and we have almost 1500 years of vile Islamic practices to justify being afraid.  Real fear, legitimate fear, historically foundational fear, and that's not imaginary, nor is it a mental disorder, because their vile actions are going on right before our eyes now.  How much violence must we behold before we grasp just  how dangerous Muslims are?

Islam isn't a religion.  It's a criminal political movement masquerading as a religion.  History and current events demonstrates the truth of that.  Crime, murderrape, kidnapping, corruption of the rule of law, and violence is rampant throughout the world where Muslims migrate, and most of Europe's leaders are covering it up, and worse yet, they're persecuting and prosecuting those who stand up to all this.  Islamized Netherlands: Pegida Leader Edwin Wagensveld Sentenced for Comparing Muslims to Nazis, and this is going on right now in America, and the Democrats are supporting it. What's worse is American churches are suicidally abandoning their Christian faith and heretically supporting this, with the support of a totally corrupt media.  Which makes one wonder if they were believers in the first place, and the same is true in Europe, Major Scandal Rocks the Italian Catholic Church: Bishops Accused of Funding Illegal Immigration.

The Islamization of Europe isn't a conspiracy theory, it's factual, it's history, that history is incontestable, and it's insane.

Islam has no concept of world peace until the world is converted to to Islam, preferably with the sword.  As a result, Islam has been at war with the rest of the world in varying degrees for almost 1500 years.   Any harmony that exists between Islam and any other nation or group in the world, is never anything except temporary, and it only exists to allow Islam to reorganize and attack once again.

Nor is there any harmony within Islam.

The foundational values of Islam are hate, greed, envy, lust, and violence.  And the only ones they hate more than kafir (non believers) are Muslims of different sects, as each sect considers the other sects heretics, and the Koran demands the death of heretics.

This is what Islam brings:

  1. Absolute authoritarianism without accountability.
  2. Zero tolerance for criticism or questions.
  3. Unreasonable fears about the outside world that often involve evil conspiracies and persecutions.
  4. A belief that former followers are always wrong for leaving and there is never a legitimate reason for anyone else to leave (apostasy is punishable by death).
  5. Followers feeling they are never able to be “good enough” (Muhammed is considered the “perfect man” and is to be emulated).
  6. A belief that the leader is right at all times (Muhammed is considered inerrant).
  7. A belief that the leader is the exclusive means of knowing “truth” or giving validation.

If someone tells you they hate you and wants kill you, and do it in the name of their religion, then you should believe them and must accept they really are barbarian savages

"The barbarism of murdering women and children, taking them as hostages, and posting photos of their dead bodies to social media, is not a byproduct of Islamic warfare, it’s the whole point.

They're a medieval tribal culture with modern communications, transportation, and weapons, all of which means they must be contained and isolated, because they cannot, and will not, be assimilated.

There's No Joy in Mudville Tonight. The Mighty Media Has Struck Out!

By Rich Kozlovich

The title is a paraphrase of the 1888 poem "Casey at the Bat", ending with this paragraph:

Oh, somewhere in this favored land the sun is shining bright;
The band is playing somewhere, and somewhere hearts are light,
And somewhere men are laughing, and somewhere children shout;
But there is no joy in Mudville - mighty Casey has struck out.

Well, there's a lot of joy around the nation because in Washington, aka, Mudville, the mighty media has struck out.  The L.A. Times refused to endorse Kamala, but it wasn't because she was so far left.  It was because she wasn't far left enough, and the Hollywood crowd railed about it cancelling their subscriptions, but does it really matter?

The L.A. Times is dying, and in January they laid off 20% of the staff, with the owner "writing $3 million-plus checks every month to produce a newspaper no bigger than Applebee’s menu..... bankruptcy, humiliation, and unemployment all put a smile on my face and a song in my heart."

The Washington Post has refused to endorse Kamala and that's caused a bit of a furor among WaPo employees.  It appears writer Michele Norris has resigned.  So, who's Michele Norris? I never heard of her before this, so who cares?  However, this mentality is contagious at WaPo, which lost two hundred thousand subscribers as a result of not endorsing Kamala.   So, maybe that's why Jeff Bezos wants more conservative columnists at the Washington Post?  Imagine that.   I wonder if his employees will allow him to hire white conservative writers?  And who will define a conservative writer?  Oh wait, I know, John Kasich who says he has the right to define conservatism as he see fit, and his definition would work well for the Pravda media.  But does it really matter?

It seems he's tired of funding a bunch of Woke losers dragging his paper down the toilet having already lost a "whopping $77 million" just last year, and has been losing money hand over fist for years.  And Bezos should be worried all these nobody "journalists" are leaving?

Conservative readers are not coming back if for no other reason WaPo's list of hoaxes are legion, and it's already clear leftist readership can't sustain them, and if he brings in "conservative" writers, leftist readership will continue to drop until the financial situation makes continued publication unsustainable, even for Bezos, and hopefully followed down the toilet by CNN and MSNBC.   Bezos wrote an article defending his decision to not endorse Kamala, but what he actually showed is their irrelevancy, and the growing irrelevancy of the media as a whole, and he clearly must understand the Post is toast.  And that's true poetry!

No one can save these corrupt institutions.  They've been exposed for their lies, their corruption, their treason, and while Americans can be easily fooled, once made aware of how they've been deceived, Americans will not forget or forgive.  They might be able to fool the younger generation for a while, but since they don't read newspapers, books, or anything that make their little snowflake heads ache with critical thought, the end result will be the same.

But let's not kid ourselves, this corruption didn't just start.  Those who read history books know the media has been the feeding the public this corrupt poison forever.  Stalin's murder by starvation of millions of Ukrainians was dismissed by the NYT, the explosion of the USS Maine was blamed on Spain by the Hearst media empire, and that's just the tip of the iceberg.

The era of big media is over, trust in them has tanked and hard times lay ahead.    Their lies, misinformation, disinformation, censorship, corruption, and propaganda in support of insane leftist goals the last sixteen years has now been totally exposed.  Their deliberate covered up of criminal activity by Democrats, and their corrupt reporting on Trump, conservatives, Republicans, Israel, and this election, is a suicidal dagger in their heart.

One more thing.  It's long overdue for the New York Times v. Sullivan to be overturned.  They need to be made accountable for their lies, and then:

"Everywhere in this favored land the sun will be shining bright, the bands will be playing, hearts will be light, and people will be laughing, because in Mudville, the mighty media has struck out."

The E-Myth

By Rich Kozlovich

Many years ago when I first started my business I tried to read as much about business start ups as I could, including what I think is a really eye opening book called "The E-Myth: Why Most Small Businesses Don't Work and What to Do About It", and the biggest thing I took away from this book was his observation, “Everybody who goes into business is actually three-people-in-one: the entrepreneur, the manager, and the technician”, and all three have different drives, goals, and motives that have to be merged in order to be successful.   I used this book title to try and emphasize the myths regarding economics in America are legion.

In spite of America being the most successful capitalist nation in the history of the planet, most Americans are stunningly ignorant about economics, and I blame the government's system of public education, and economists for that.

As a retired business owner who was heavily involved in my industry's trade associations I can assure you one of the major problems we're facing is hiring people, and not because they're not there, it's because they don't want to work, if hired they can't be relied on to come to work, and when they do, they don't perform.

I subscribe to Joe Lonsdale's substack site because he was touted to me as an economic genius, and it's probably true,  but I've found I'm not really interested in much of what he writes about, but I didn't unsubscribe because you never know what very knowledgeable and accomplished people will produce, and today was one of those times with, Ep 99: The Myth of American Inequality with Senator Phil Gramm.  He notes the leftist media driven lie is:

The rich are getting richer, the poor are getting poorer. The wealthiest among us don't pay their fair share in taxes. The American Dream is disappearing... Are these claims true? What data are they based upon? And does it stand up to scrutiny?............He argues that we suffer, not from extreme inequality, but from welfare-driven equality that encourages huge numbers of low-and-middle income Americans to drop out of the workforce..........

P&D Geopolitics Issue

By Rich Kozlovich

Over the years I've written a lot about China because I've read a lot about China, and I think Jared Diamond's Guns, Germs, and Steel: The Fates of Human Societies published in 1997 had a lot to do with perking my interest there, and more so his views on why patterns keep repeating in so many different societies worldwide.

China's history is large, complicated, and well studied by the Chinese.  I've often said those who've read much about China's history often know what they're going to do, and while not always, most of the time why.  It's just absolutely no one knows when or where they're going to do it.

Nothing about China is ever as it appears, including their economy.  Their human rights record is abysmal, their conduct with their neighbors is appalling, and internationally illegal.

While all the economists, pundits, and politicians were lauding China's economy the bug man was saying it's all smoke and mirrors, for almost 20 years now, and it's become obvious that's true to the experts as well. Imagine that.  Think about this.  If the bug man could see that almost 20 years ago, how could the highly educated and knowledgeable experts not see it?

On October 26, 2024 John Mauldin published his weekly Thoughts From the Front Line with this piece, Broken China noting the growth and the transition to the lack of growth and why, their massive debt, their banking system that's in effect a department of the government, their property development default issues, their centralized economic schemes, their demographic problems and the housing issues:

“China has a bigger problem lurking behind all those empty apartments: even more homes that developers already sold but have not finished building. By one conservative estimate, that figure is around 10 million apartments.“…......One recent estimate, from the research firm Rhodium Group, put the real estate sector’s entire domestic borrowings, including loans and bonds, at more than $10 trillion, of which only a tiny portion have been recognized.”

The real issue in China is the CCP's desire to remain in control at all costs:

........maintaining the party’s power is always top priority in a Communist system. To some degree, this requires keeping the population happy and comfortable. Hungry people, even relatively uncomfortable people, are generally less cooperative (note sarcasm). But if push comes to shove, regime preservation comes first. Xi’s predecessors demonstrated that with the “Cultural Revolution” and later Tiananmen Square.

All this is going to reduce willingness to invest in China, and this new N. Korea and Russia embrace is an illusion.  They're all going broke.  N. Korea is working overtime to provide military equipment Russia needs and is incapable of producing themselves, which I think is a long term tell on Russia's state of affairs, along with the fact were seeing what was considered to be the number two military power in the world unable to defeat the number 22 military power in the world for over two years and a half years.

Communist Cuba's entire power grid has collapsed. After Russia stopped funding Cuba in the 80's and Venezuela wasted all their money supporting socialist nations, and went broke, Cuba had to rely on it's own resources, and they failed.  Their taxpayer base is pretty much non existent, and they're not only lacking energy, they're lacking all the basics, including food.

Repairing their grid is going to be more than difficult since they didn't even create it in the first place, the Russians created it in the early 1970's, and they never properly maintained it after 1980 when the Russians turned off the tap and the Soviet Union collapsed, and the US embargo made it difficult to get material, but I think that's way over played.  It's estimated it will take $10 billion dollars to bring it up to snuff, and that's the equivalent of  "10 percent of the country’s gross domestic product".  And they don't have it.   It will be interesting to see if Russia, China, Iran, or N. Korea come to their rescue, especially since Cuba is such a strategically  important nation.   But is irritating the United States with such a smoke and mirrors game worth ten billion dollars to them?

How about converting to solar?  Well, they're incapable of creating such a system, and what private enterprise with that capability would be willing to invest in Cuba, as they're notorious for nationalizing businesses.

Russian, China, and all the rest of that cabal may throw some money at them to infuriate the American war hawks, but that's all smoke and mirrors, they can't afford Cuba now any more than they could afford Cuba decades ago, and it's much worse now.  The more they throw away supporting Cuba, the sooner they go broke.  The left screams about Batista, but under him Cuba was better off than many European nations at that time.  Was he a thug?  Sure, but compared to the horrors the Castro cabal imposed on Cubans he was a humanitarian.

Cuba is unfixable unless they overthrow the communists and embrace America, and that goes for Venezuela also, but it's not happening no matter how their nation is swirling down the sewer being turned into a criminal controlled state, just like Haiti, and Cuba will end up the same way.

There's all this scary talk about BRICS, and again, I think it's all smoke and mirrors, as  Antonia Colibasanu notes:

For leaders such as Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping, the annual BRICS summit is an excellent opportunity to present a vision of a world in which the United States does not lead. And yet, each summit confirms that the grouping has no function other than to promote lofty rhetoric and symbolic gestures.

They want to create an economic system to overcome the American dollar, and America's ability to impose restrictions on trade with countries who like Russia attacked Ukraine, and those who support them.   But these are all economic losers, and guess what?  They have no idea how to do it.  There was a lot of rhetoric but no new economic multilateral model offered that could possibly match what already exists, and the potential for mutual beneficial cooperation is a dream, kind of like a nightmare, and one thing I think all these countries have come away with is the understanding BRICS isn't about mutually beneficial multinational cooperation, it's all about what's beneficial for China and Russia, and mostly China, and the question is does Putin grasp that, or is it he's in so much trouble over his invasion of Ukraine, he has no choice but to embrace this folly.  One more thing.  If they actually did work something out, who's currency would they use?

Did you know there was an Organization of Turkic states? Yeah, me neither, and before all this it didn't really matter, but for the first time the met this last weekend in Istanbul. Okay, so what?  Well, no one's saying it so I will.  Supposedly this is all about industry, science, technology, and innovation, and I'm sure it was, but I believe there's a behind the curtain factor here.  This is a push against Russia, or at least a warning.  Why? Look who the members are, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, and Uzbekistan with Hungary and Turkmenistan as observers.  Most former Soviet satellites who very often are going their own way whether Putin likes it or not, and Turkey is playing a dangerous cat and mouse game with the west and with Russia.

Turkey is part of NATO, but not the European Union, and wants to play both sides in this Russo/Ukrainian War.

Turkey is asking to be fully "admitted in the Russian-Chinese-led Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, where it is a dialogue partner, and to BRICS, while successfully contending with the Iranian (actually another Turk) Ali Khamenei and the Saudi Muhammad bin Salman for the leadership of the Islamic ecumene and claiming the spiritual leadership of the Organisation of Turkish States. Turkey is whatever it needs to be. Turkish, Muslim and Asian, but also European and Western. Part of the developed world, but also part of the Global South. A strategic component of the American Empire, but also a potentially lethal threat to the superpower’s hegemony. In essence, Turkey is itself and its interests. And it is in the light of this banal reality that Ankara will calibrate its moves in the Ukrainian game".

In the end Turkey want's to crush the US, enfeeble Russia, and become the overriding power in the Middle East.  That's not going to happen, because Turkey is a mess and no one trusts anything Erdogan does or says.
